How can I convert a DVD into an mp4 format file together with its subtitles?

As far as I know, the video itself and the subtitles are stored in 2 different files on a DVD. The converter I'm now using only allows me to convert the video into an mp4 file without the subtitles. Any suggestions as to how I can convert the video into an mp4 file WITH the subtitles?

1. You dont need to convert the subtitles, when youve converted the video just import your subtitles, like i use VLC media player to watch asian dramas, and at the top it says subtitles and then open and i open up my computer and add the subtitles for that drama
