How to add subtitles to a DVD without destroying its structure?

I have a video DVD with 20 songs and it has no subtitles. I want to add them and don't know how to do it without losing the main menu. I don't want to rip the DVD, add the subtitles and then have to create another main menu. How would you do that? Thanks!
