How do i open subtitles on windows media player?

Cant open subtitles in VLC media player? the video is a .avi and the subtitles are an SRT file. I cant get them to open together. They're in the same foulder, and have the same name, but I cant get it to work. I dont see any option in VLC to open subtitles at all. OMG! thank you!

VLC sometimes doesn't open subtitles...? When I try to open a video that needs subtitles with VLC Media Player, I open up VLC, File > Open File, select the video and the .sub or .srt file that goes with it. For some videos this works, but for others it just returns a message saying "Unable to open [then the file name]". However I CAN open the video on its own without the subtitles. Is there any way to fix this or get round this problem, or any more reliable player that can embed subs? Thanks :) It doesn't seem to be the subtitles that don't work, it's that VLC can't open the actual movie. Also, sometimes it initially works and then when I try and open it for a second time, it won't open. So it shouldn't really have anything to do with the files... :S

using a pocketdish player, i put a foreign film in the form of an .avi file on and the subtitles didn't show also in the folder with the foriegn movie there was a SRT file.....when i erased no files and played the movie in realplayer on the computer, it had the subtitles....when i erased the srt file and played it again, the subtitles were gone....theoretically, if i add the srt file to the pocketdish digital media player, the subtitles SHOULD show up...correct? i just have a feeling that the pocketdish player doesnt read all the files like a computer does....they're two seperate files, i dont even click on the srt file on the computer, just the .avi file to open it.....will the pocketdish know to put the two together?

When I right click, how do I get the 'open with --> notepad'? how to add subtitles to vlc player when you have original DVD movie? because i can not open normally the source. Every time i try to use a trick by "open file" and then browse subtitles i have firstly add an .avi file and i am not allowed to because allways when i choose my dvd disk with DVD (F:) it opens and shows there is AUDIO and VIDEO folder. And when I try to do it another way by making a right-click on (F:) i can choose only "play in VLC" and there is no option like "open with..." and i can not choose e.g. BSplayer which is easier. The SSA file I have has delay so I when to fix it with Subtitle Workshop.I first load the original then change the delay and when to save as an SSA file Then went I open the WMV file there was no subtitle before I changed it ,it load automatically. What am I doing wrong? Is there a better program?

Remove subtitles from ripped dvd? i ripped a dvd of mine using dvdfab(trial version), and turned it into avi form for use in windows movie maker, in the preview there were no subtitles on it, however when I opened it in movie maker, they were there. How do I get rid of them? Can I? What do I do, so that when I do the process again, it doesn't happen again? Anyone? Thanks so I can't use dvdfab to rip the dvds, so that won't happen?

Why would anyone purchase a Blu-ray imported (Japanese, Germany) movie? The opening credits and subtitles, if the movie is not dubbed, will just be a major distraction, no?

Ripped Dvd using dvdfab and subtitles??? I ripped a dvd using dvdfab and turned it into an AVI for usage in windows movie maker, when I opened it up, there were subtitles. Can I get rid of them??? Was there something I did wrong before I ripped it?? Something I didn't check off? Why would that happen, it wasn't in the preview. I am using the 30 day trail version of dvdfab if that matters.

how can i hard code subtitles into movie using nero...? ...so i can see them on my dvd player that is connected to TV. If it is impossible to do with Nero, then tell me what should i use, and please - step by step, because i rushed through so many websites, reading and trying to understand, but just got more confused. I know that some players do not need hard coding to see subtitles, i tried soft coding (correct term i guess), i mean i have burned DATA dvd with folder that had two files : Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004).avi Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004).srt okay, and here i have new fresh dvd with a movie and external subtitles, i insert it into my dvd player (oh, by the way the player is VIDO d312) and i see that folder, i open it and i can see only .avi file i guess (icon was folder look-like *confused*), i play that file , and the movie starts without subtitles, tried to hit the "subtitle" button on a remote controller a few times but just saw forbidden sign popping out. thanks in advance !

I downloaded Russian Subtitles for a Mvoie but it does not display russian words but something Åãî òàì íåò I needed Russian Subtitles for the movie Hitman, I got the subtitles in notepad and when i open the notepad file it does not show the Russian words and shows this Åãî òàì íåò. When I play the movie the subtitles that it displays are also these. I have also tried subtitles in Spanish and English and they work perfectly. What I need to find out is a way to get those Russian subtitles to display properly. Please and Thank You

VLC Player, subtitles, help? im watching a movie on VLC Player (version 8.6) and it has subtitls in french, i was wondering how to get rid of them, i had a quick look on the menu and couldnt see anything on there about the subtitles, so i looked on google, this one person on a forum said to go to 'Video'' and disable it on the Subtitle section, but i couldnt see anything that said disable, so i went through the settings again myself and found the subtitle section by clicking on 'Settings', 'Preferences', ''Video'' on the left panel, then i clicked the little cross next to ''Video'' and it opened up a sub-menu, i then clicked 'Subtitles/OSD' then unchecked the box that says 'Autodetect subtitle files', i was hopeing that would stop the subtitles from showing up on the movie, but it didnt make any diffrence, can somebody please tell me how to turn them off?
